System
modeling and design is a critical step in the development of complex
systems. A lot of care is taken to create the proper system
specification that will allow a competent technical team to deliver the
goods. System modeling involves everything from requirements analysis,
technical specifications, system architecture and design, database
schema and any documentation needed to reveal how a system functions
and why it functions the way it does. We also refer to this as
Information Architecture.
Our system modeling services include:
- UML diagrams - use cases, package and class diagrams, state charts, activity diagrams
- Flowcharts
- ER diagrams
- Data flow diagrams
- Work flow diagrams
- Cause and effect diagrams
- Site maps
- Mind maps
- Process flow diagrams
- Organization charts (Org charts)
- PERT charts, GANTT charts and timelines
- Form specifications
- Wireframes, skeletons, screenshots and mockups
- User interface design (UI or GUI design)
- Matrices
- Security policies, usage policies, privacy policies
- Technical documentation
- User documentation and help guides
Phase Zero
At
a high level, the system development process involves system design and
then system implementation. The same party often does both but that
doesn't have to be the case. When embarking on a new project, we are
often asked, "What will it cost?" and "How long will it take?" Due to
the complexity of a system and scope creep, it is difficult to pinpoint
an exact cost or timeframe before any analysis has been done.
We
offer what is called a "Phase Zero" service wherein our consultants
work with a client to develop the requirements analysis and possibly
the technical specifications. At that juncture, we are more readily
able to quote a tighter cost range and implementation horizon. The
client may take the analysis and have it implemented by a 3 rd party,
in which case the financial commitment is limited to the phase zero
effort. The client can also continue on with us for developing the
system, in which case the cost of phase zero is rolled into the total
costing for the project.
